This high-quality, licensed, reprinted factory-written service manual covers 1958 Chevy passenger cars. It's the definitive guide to maintenance and service for these models.

In 1958, General Motors was proudly celebrating their 50th anniversary. The company rolled out a host of beautiful models across their marques and Chevrolet certainly didn't miss the party. How do you improve on already legendary styling? Well, longer, lower and wider is a good start. Part of what made the "lower" possible was the fact that the frames used on the 1958 Chevy models were now the "X" type. This book has all of the specifications for those frames to help you get yours back into shape. In fact, this big, 798 page shop manual covers all the major areas of these fine automobiles. Whether you're looking for basic tune-up or major tear down, you'll find the information you need. With respect to engines, it covers the 235 cubic inch, six cylinder, as well as the 283 cubic V8 and the 348 cubic inch V8. There's even a section covering the Ramjet fuel injection in great detail.

In addition to the comprehensive text, you'll be pleased to find this manual is loaded with a huge number and variety of visual aids to help give you the knowledge and confidence to take on your list of projects for your classic. There are tables, black and white photos, exploded view diagrams, illustrations, cutaway views, wiring diagrams and more. Together, you'll find the projects have been laid out efficiently and accurately. That shouldn't be a surprise, as the contents of this shop manual were written by Chevrolet Motor Division, for their mechanics, back when these cars were new.

MODELS COVERED:

  • 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air
  • 1958 Chevrolet Biscayne
  • 1958 Chevrolet Brookwood
  • 1958 Chevrolet Del Ray
  • 1958 Chevrolet Impala
  • 1958 Chevrolet Nomad
  • 1958 Chevrolet Yeoman

There's nothing like a great movie, especially when cars make up some of the best characters. American Graffiti was definitely a great movie, with a huge list of cars (and rock music) contributing to its fame. One of those "stars" happened to be a 1958 Chevrolet. In the film, Ron Howard's character loaned it to a friend for the night and it became involved in quite a series of misadventures. Maybe your life isn't as chaotic as the movie characters (maybe it is!), but if you're looking to get, and keep, your 1958 Chevy thundering down the road...and having some adventures of your own, then this repair manual is just what you need.

Book Excerpt: 1958 Chevy Passenger Car Shop Manual... CRANKCASE VENTILATION: POSITIVE
MAINTENANCE The positive crankcase ventilation system will operate effectively as long as normal maintenance is applied. Due to the nature of the materials carried by the ventilating system, the valve and pipe are subject to fouling with sludge and carbon formation. At regular intervals of 10,000 miles or less, depending on operating conditions, the metering valve, the pipe running from the valve to the intake manifold and manifold fitting should be removed from the engine, disassembled and cleaned thoroughly. Note: Under cold weather operating conditions, when vehicles are operated at slow speeds with low engine temperatures, more rapid accumulations of harmful fumes many be present in the engine. Under these conditions of operation the valve and tube must be cleaned more frequently than specified above. However, no specific mileage recommendation can be made under these conditions. Frequency of cleaning must be dictated by experience.
This manual is perfect for the restorer, or anyone working on one of these vehicles. Clear illustrations show exploded views, as well as component details, plus specs on engine data, engine torque, carburetion and more. Subject: 1958 Chevrolet Passenger Car Shop Manual.
