Selling luxury cars during the Great Depression was certainly no easy task. Fortunately, Cadillac had always been about more than just plush accommodations. Their innovative engineering and quality construction offered real value. These sleek machines helped pave the way for modern automotive designs.
In today's world, you don't see many automobile choices featuring more than eight cylinders under their hoods, but in 1934, Cadillac still offered their sweet V-12, and if that still wasn't big enough for you, you could just check the box on the order form designating the V-16 and smile! Whichever tremendous power plant you have under that long hood, this shop manual has all of the specifications and instructions to get it going and keep it performing at its best. Don't worry, it contains all the details for that wonderful straight eight LaSalle engine too!
It's probably no big deal for today's four-cylinder folks to remember their engine's firing order. The same can't be said for the lucky Cadillac V-16 owners. That's the kind of thing that makes this book so outstanding. Just flip to page 95 in the Electrical System Specifications section and look under ignition, then under distributor to see that for the 452 D engine, it's 1-8-9-14-3-6-11-2-15-10-7-4-13-12-5-16. Whew! It also helps by explaining to you that the number one cylinder on the 452-D is the left front. If you're going to be adjusting valves, you may want to set aside a good chunk of time.
