Competition from Europe may have started Cadillac down the road to stepping back from the "bigger is better" mindset, but the changing attitudes brought about by the oil embargo definitely confirmed they were on the right track. By 1976, Cadillac was ready. Their answer was the Seville. When they debuted the Seville, the brochure summed it up nicely by stating, "Seville is a new expression of Cadillac excellence. International in size. Timeless in styling. Cadillac in craftsmanship. Very simply, Seville is designed to be one of the finest production cars built anywhere in the world." While its big brothers might still be chugging gasoline at single-digit miles per gallon, the significantly smaller and lighter Seville provided loads of luxury, but much better fuel economy...and you didn't need a city block sized space to park it. When it's time to get to work on your vintage, baby Caddy, this is the book which has all of the factory-correct specifications and instructions you'll need.
While it's the industry standard today, electronic fuel injection (EFI) was not that common in 1976. Fuel injection offers many great benefits over carburetion and Cadillac equipped the 350 cubic inch V8 which powered the Seville with a fuel injection system. Did you know that the Cadillac EFI system is a two-group system? You'd know that and much, much more if you had this helpful book. In a two-group system, the eight injectors are divided into two groups of four each. Cylinders 1, 2, 7 and 8 form group one, while group two consists of cylinders 3, 4, 5 and 6. All four injectors in a group are opened and closed simultaneously while the groups operate alternately. This tremendous guide starts with an excellent system description, explains all of the components, walks you through troubleshooting, service information, adjustments and torque specifications. You'll find great organization and this high level of detail has been employed throughout this 1976 Cadillac Seville shop manual.
