RADIATOR | REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
(Refer to illustrations 5.9a, 5.9b, 5.10 and 5.11) Warning: If vehicle is equipped with airbags, refer to Chapter 12 to disarm the airbag system prior to performing any work described below.
- Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.
- Drain the coolant from the radiator (see Chapter 1).
- Remove the "sight shield" (the plastic protector attached to the upper crossmember).
- Unscrew and remove the integral relay control assembly (see Section 4). It's not necessary to unplug it - just set it aside.
- Loosen the hose clamp and detach the upper hose from the radiator.
- Detach the overflow hose from the radiator filler neck.
- Unplug the alternator wire harness assembly from the alternator and detach it from the shroud, then set it aside.
- Remove the electric cooling fan and shroud assembly (see Section 4).
- If your vehicle is equipped with an automatic transaxle, disconnect the upper and lower oil cooler line fittings. Note: Some vehicles are equipped with special oil cooler line fittings which must be detached with cooler line disconnect tool T82L-9500-AH (see illustrations). Cap the fittings and the lines to prevent leakage.
- Working underneath the vehicle, remove the two bracket bolts that attach the transaxle oil cooler lines to the bottom edge of the radiator (see illustration).
