OIL PUMP
- The engine oil pump is located on the right hand side of RS50 engines and on the left-hand side of RS125 engines - undo the cover screws and remove the cover for access (see illustrations 8.14a and 14b). The pump is driven mechanically by the engine and the amount of oil passed through the pump is metered by the throttle cable via the cable splitter.
- First check that the throttle operates smoothly, then check the adjustment of the throttle and oil pump cables (see Section 8). There should be no freeplay in the cable from the splitter to the oil pump and the scribe mark on the pump cam must align with the mark on the pump body (see illustrations 8.14c and 14d). If necessary, follow the procedure in Section 8 to align the marks.
- Check that the hoses from the oil tank to the pump and from the pump to the carburetor are secured at both ends. On some models the hoses are secured with spring clips and on others the clips are crimped in place - do not attempt to disconnect a crimped hose unless it is leaking and the clip is to be renewed.
- The cause of oil leakages must be investigated immediately. Reduced oil supply to the engine will soon result in serious damage. Check that the oil pump mounting bolts are tightened to the specified torque setting; if necessary, remove the bolts and clean the threads, and then apply a suitable non-permanent thread-locking compound before tightening them.

- If required, to remove the tool kit or the prop for the fuel tank, lift off the access panel (see illustration).
