Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor - replacement Refer to illustration 4.3
- The APP sensor is located at the upper end of, and is an integral component of, the accelerator pedal assembly. The APP sensor provides the PCM with a variable voltage signal that's proportional to the position (angle) of the accelerator pedal. The PCM uses this and other data to control the position of the throttle plate inside the electronically-controlled throttle body.
- If a diagnostic scan tool test reveals there is a problem with the APP, the acceleration pedal and sensor must be replaced as a unit.
- Remove the bolts securing the throttle pedal assembly, and then disconnect the electrical connector (see illustration).
- Lift the throttle pedal assembly upwards, and disconnect the wiring plug. Note that the throttle pedal is only available as a complete assembly, which includes the position sensor. If defective, the complete assembly must be replaced.
- Installation is the reverse of removal. After replacing the pedal and sensor, check with a scan tool and clear any DTCs.
TUNE-UP AND ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
BRAKE AND CLUTCH FLUID
- The brake master cylinder is mounted on the front of the power booster unit in the engine compartment. The hydraulic clutch master cylinder used on manual transmission vehicles is located next to the brake master cylinder.
- The brake master cylinder and the clutch master cylinder share a common reservoir. To check the fluid level of either system, release the clips and pull up the plastic cover in the left-rear corner of the engine compartment and look at the MAX and MIN marks on the brake fluid reservoir (see illustration). The fluid level can also be checked with the CBS display on the instrument panel.
- If the level is low, wipe the top of the reservoir cover with a clean rag to prevent contamination of the brake system before lifting the cover.
- Add only the specified brake fluid to the reservoir (refer to Recommended lubricants and fluids in this Chapter's Specifications or to your owner's manual). Mixing different types of brake fluid can damage the system. Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir only to the MAX line.
