To renew or clean the filter element, be sure that all fuel is burned out of the lines, regulator and carburetor by closing the tank withdrawal valve and allowing engine to run until it stops. Turn the filter cover counter-clockwise and remove same. Using caution not to damage the metal discs, remove filter element. Discs must be flat for proper filtering action. Renew the filter element unit if there is any evidence of damage or if discs are bent. A dirty element which is otherwise in good condition can be cleaned by rinsing same in a suitable solvent and directing compressed air through length of element. Disc damage can result if air stream is directed to the sides. When reassembling, install the element just finger tight, install filter cover and tighten same securely.Subject: Ford farm tractor service, maintenance, repair.
