Book Excerpt: 1995-2007 Honda VT1100 Shadow Series Repair Manual ENGINE
The engine is a V-twin liquid-cooled, 4-stroke design. The cylinders are offset and set at a 45 degree angle: the cylinders fire on alternate crankshaft rotations. Each cylinder is equipped with a single camshaft and three valves. Both engine and transmission share a common case and the same wet sump oil supply. The clutch is a wet-type located on the right side of the engine. Refer to Chapter Five for service to the engine bottom end components. Refer to Chapter Six for clutch service. This chapter provides complete service and overhaul procedures, including information for disassembly, removal, inspection, service and reassembly of the engine top end components. These include the cylinder head covers, hydraulic lifters, rocker arms, camshafts, cylinder heads, valves, cylinders, pistons and piston rings.
