ENGINE MODEL NUMBER The engine model number is stamped onto a machined pad on the front (radiator) side of the engine block (see illustration). 2.0L DOHC non-turbo engines are designated by the model number 420A, 2.0L DOHC turbo engines are designated by the model number 4G63, 2.4L SOHC engines are designated by the model number 4G64. V6 engines are designated by the model number 6G72.
2.0L FOUR-CYLINDER NON-TURBO ENGINE CAMSHAFTS, ROCKER ARMS AND HYDRAULIC VALVE LASH ADJUSTERS CAMSHAFT REMOVAL (Refer to illustrations 6.2 and 6.3)
- Remove the timing belt and camshaft sprockets (see Section 5).
- The camshaft bearing caps are identified with their numbered locations in the cylinder head (see illustration).
- Remove the outside bearing caps at each end of the camshafts first. Remove the remaining camshaft bearing caps, loosening the bolts a little at a time to prevent distorting the camshafts by loosening the caps in the sequence shown (see illustration). Once the bearing caps have all been loosened enough for removal, they may still be difficult to remove. Using the bearing cap bolts for extra leverage, move the cap back and forth to loosen the cap from the cylinder head. If they are still difficult to remove you can tap them gently with a soft face mallet so they can be lifted off.

CONVERTIBLE TOP SERVICE INFORMATION NOTE: This information is general in nature, as it is intended to apply to all vehicle types, years and models. ADJUSTMENTS NOTE: The following are typical adjustments. Some of these adjustments may be not provided for on your vehicle. LATCHES The latches secure the convertible top frame to the upper edge of the windshield frame. If the latches are too loose, the top will rattle and move side to side. If the latches are too tight, they will be difficult or impossible to secure. The hooks on some latches are threaded so they can be screwed in or out to tighten or loosen the latch; pliers are often necessary, so make sure you protect the finish of the hook with a rag. Other latches have set-screws that lock the hooks in place - loosen the set-screws (usually with an Allen wrench), position the hooks as desired, then tighten the set-screws.
