Book Excerpt: Nissan & Datsun Pick-up Trucks 1980-1997, Pathfinder 1987-1995 Repair Manual GENERAL INFORMATION
The Datsun/Nissan pick-up truck and Pathfinder vehicles are conventional front engine/rear wheel drive layout with four-wheel drive (4WD) available on some models. The inline four-cylinder or V6 engines used in these vehicles are equipped with either a carburetor or throttle body fuel injection. The engine drives the rear wheels through either a four or five-speed manual or automatic transmission via a driveshaft and solid rear axle. On 4WD models, a transfer case and driveshaft are used to drive the front wheels through independent driveaxles. Front suspension is independent, featuring torsion bars, with power-assisted steering available on later models. Leaf springs are used in the rear on pick-up models, while Pathfinders have coil springs. Brakes are power assisted discs at the front and self-adjusting drum or discs at the rear.

- Using pliers, flatten the clip that retains the vacuum hose to the sensor.
- Disconnect the hoses from the sensor.
- Carefully note the position of the sensor. The new sensor must be installed in exactly the same position.

NOTE: The gasket between the sensor and air cleaner is bonded to the air cleaner and should not be removed.- Install the new sensor with a new gasket in the same position as the old one.
- Press the retaining clip on the sensor. Do not damage the control mechanism in the center of the sensor.
- Connect the vacuum hoses and install the air cleaner on the engine.
VACUUM MOTOR- Remove the screws that attach the vacuum motor retainer to the air cleaner.
- Turn the vacuum motor to disengage it from the air control valve and lift it off.
- Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
