Oldsmobile Factory Service Manuals
Oldsmobile Factory Shop / Service Manuals (OEM) - 442, Cutlass, Delta 88, 98, Sixes, Eights & More
Oldsmobile was a major contributor to the rich tradition of American automobiles. With their legendary "Rocket" engines, Olds ignitied a passion for performance which still burns today. Offering a great blend of luxury and power, Oldsmobile rolled-out many classic models. It's wonderful that people are willing and able to keep these milestone vehicles on the road. In order to do that, there's no better source than a factory shop manual. The Motor Bookstore is proud to offer high-quality reproductions of these manuals, which were first written and published by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). There's no need to flip through a decades old book only to find it is missing pages and holds loose pages smeared with grease, oil and brake dust. We offer excellent reprints of the factory guides. You'll get the complete and accurate content, including factory specifications from the Oldsmobile experts, but in a freshly-printed and packaged (GM licensed) form.
These nice Oldsmobile shop manuals are available for models ranging from the 1940s to the 1970s. They're not only loaded with detailed text instructions, but also include a large number and variety of visual aids. Most contain such helpful tools as tables, charts, black and white photographs, exploded views, cutaway views, diagrams, illustrations and more. Many also include wiring diagrams.
Five Reasons You Need an Oldsmobile Factory Shop Manual For Your Restoration Project
REASON ONE: It will save you time. They say, "time is money"...and that's true, but extra time spent working on your project is usually better put as, "time is frustration". These books were written by the experts at Oldsmobile for use by their dealership mechanics back when these cars were new, so you know the jobs are organized and you will find them described completely, accurately and efficiently. Spend more time behind the wheel, and less time turning (and throwing) wrenches, by having the detailed information right at your finger tips. The people helping you with your project will thank you...and so will your wrenches.
REASON TWO: It provides you the CORRECT information. Even if you figure out how the puzzle pieces fit together, it's nice to know the order. Don't play the game of "Does this need to come off to get to that?" or (worse), "I didn't even need to take that off, after all". Engineers go to great lengths to design components to stay together. These books are filled with torque specs. When tightening a fastener, guessing on a measurement somewhere between, "I don't think it will fall off" to "Oh no! I just snapped off the head!"is not the way to go. Likewise, having correct information when it comes to electrical and fuel systems is of paramount importance. Safety first!
REASON THREE: It arms you with knowledge. Even if you aren't the one doing the work, it's nice to know what the jobs require. Not only can you follow-up on the shop performing your work, you may even want to be sure THEY have the information. You're likely paying them by the hour...and you want the job done right. So this is a way to make sure the SHOP falls in line with reasons one and two. If you are doing the work, it will let you know the tools you'll need BEFORE you tear it apart.
REASON FOUR: It can prevent damage and mistakes. In addition to the over/under tightening scenario previously mentioned, these books are treasure maps to find those elusive clips and fasteners which factory engineers sometimes hide like Easter eggs. You know what I'm talking about. That one screw that you can't see, but can just barely feel with your fingertips on the backside of the panel. How about some bolt that can't be accessed without opening the hood or door and squinting just right? There's even that trim screw cleverly hidden, which makes you scream and cuss for hours asking, "Why won't this crazy piece/part come off?". Perhaps it's because the design engineer isn't going to be the one actually working on the car out in the real world. In any case, having the answers is nice. Don't think of it as cheating...just being well educated.
REASON FIVE: They can be a wealth of information far beyond torque specs and rebuilding instructions. Many factory manuals offer information about things such as casting number locations and tables to decode what the numbers mean. Items such as engine serial numbers, transmission serial numbers, Body and Style number plates are often included. This data can help you to figure out where your car was built and when. For restoration projects you'll have a much better idea of what belongs on the car (what doesn't) and how valuable it is. I'm not necessarily saying you'll be curling up with a good book, but then again....maybe.
