Book Excerpt: Suzuki Volusia 2001-2004 and Suzuki Boulevard C50 2005-2019 Repair Manual CYLINDER HEAD AND CYLINDER
Two procedures are available to service the cylinder heads and cylinders. Each cylinder head is secured to the cylinder by a nut (Figure 43) located in the valley between the cylinders. Access to the nut is limited and requires removing the cylinder head and cylinder as a unit, unless a tool is fabricated to remove and tighten the nut. If the nut can be turned, the cylinder head and cylinder may be serviced separately. Refer to Cylinder Head in this chapter for a description of the tool. Extra care is needed to install the cylinder head and cylinder as a unit onto the piston, as opposed to just installing the cylinder. Also, if using the cylinder head/cylinder unit procedure, the front cylinder head/cylinder unit must be removed before the rear cylinder head and cylinder are accessible. After considering the preferred method for removing the cylinder head retaining nut, follow the appropriate procedure for cylinder head and cylinder removal and installation. The following procedure describes removal of the cylinder head and cylinder from the crankcase as a unit assembly. The cylinder head and cylinder are separated after removal.
