Book Excerpt: 1985-2008 Yamaha YFM80 Moto-4, YFM80 Badger, YFM80 Raptor Repair Manual LUBRICATION, MAINENTANCE AND TUNE-UP
SPARK ARRESTOR Periodically remove the spark arrestor (Chapter 8) and clean it. If necessary, clean the arrestor with solvent and a stiff brush. Allow all the solvent to evaporate before installation. If there is heavy buildup inside the muffler, perform the following:
  1. In an open area, park the ATV so the muffler points away from anything combustible.
  2. Start the engine and tap on the muffler with a rubber mallet while raising and lowering the engine speed.
  3. When no more debris exits the muffler, allow it to cool and install the spark arrestor.

FRONT SUSPENSION, STEERING, WHEELS AND TIRES The front suspension uses a single swing arm controlled by two coil-over shock absorbers. A steering knuckle at each wheel hub allows each front wheel to rotate left and right. Each steering knuckle is connected to a steering column and handlebar via an adjustable tie rod assembly. Refer to Tables 1-3, at the end of this chapter, for specifications.
FRONT WHEEL | REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
  1. Place the ATV on a level surface and apply the parking brake (Figure 1).
  2. Loosen the front wheel nuts.
  3. Elevate the front of the ATV, then place a safety stand (Figure 2) under the frame.
  4. Remove the front wheel nuts (Figure 3).
  5. Remove the front wheel.
  6. Install by reversing the removal steps. Torque the wheel lug nuts to the specification in Table 3.

INSPECTION
  1. Inspect the front wheel and brakes as described in Chapter 3.
  2. Inspect the front wheel bearings as described in Chapter 3 and this chapter.

FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS | REMOVAL/DISASSEMBLY
  1. Inspect the wheel bearing before removing it, as described in Chapter 3.
  2. Remove the front wheel as described in this chapter.
  3. Remove the front brake drum as described under Front Brake Drum Removal in Chapter 12.
  4. Remove the front hub collar (Figure 4).
